This year's volleyball season has been a very exciting and successful time for the senior girls of Pierceland Central School. They started off the season by going to many tournaments, which were located all around northern Saskatchewan. The senior girls held their own tournament on October 3rd and captured the silver medal. Division playoffs were also held in Pierceland on November 7th. The senior girls placed 1st in their pool advancing to the playoffs and competed against Edam to play in the finals. They defeated Edam and played Goodsoil to determine 1st and 2nd. Receiving 2nd overall in divisions the team advanced to Regionals along with Goodsoil. Regionals were held in Goodsoil on November 14th. Placing 2nd in their pool at Regionals they advanced to playoffs and played Hafford. Defeating Hafford they played the finals against Saskatoon C.C.A and got 2nd and advanced to Provincials. Pierceland was one of the ten teams out ninety to advance to provincials. The senior girls played very well both days and got 4th in their pool. Even though they were not able to advance to the playoffs they should be very proud to have gotten the opportunity to participate in such an event.

PCS Cup Cheetah Champs
With only trace amounts of snow remaining on the ground from earlier in the week, the weather cooperated beautifully today for our annual PCS Cup football tournament. Starting at 9:00am, 8 teams consisting of grade 6 through 12 students competed vigourously for the trophy and the honour of becoming the 2009 champions. Team names were based on their house teams: Bobcats - Buccaneers and Broncos; Cheetahs - Cardinals and Colts; Lynx - Leos and Lions; Pumas - Patriots and Pirates. Making it to the final were the Bobcat Buccaneers and the undefeated Cheetah Colts. Both teams put their full heart and soul into the close game but the Buccaneers were edged out 29 to 28! Way to go to all the teams that played well and fairly throughout the day. Congratulations Colts!!

Cool Cross-Country Competitors
The cross country finals were held at the Mervin Golf course in very snowy
conditions! "It was a great day and I was very proud of how they competed in such extreme conditions," said Ms. Montgomery who took two of our grade 8 students. One placed 3rd in Bantam boys and the other placed 11th in Midget boys. Our third place finisher literally ran in a blizzard.

Snow and cold scares off soccer players
PCS was not the only school to bow out of the annual
Grade 8 Soccer tournament in Rapid View this week. With blowing snow and temperatures dropping to -6 degrees, some students dropped out at the last minute forcing a cancellation of attendance. The weather, historically, is not very cooperative for the annual tournament.

Mega Results
Teams from across the division got to break in Maidstone's brand new gym floor during two tournaments the last couple of weeks. Although they played well, neither senior team placed at Maidstone on the weekend of Sept. 25/26.
Last weekend, however, the Junior Boys shone and brought back 1st place!!! This was a huge accomplishment for the team. The girls did not place but also played well. All teams deserve credit for their sportsmanship, great attitudes and good representation of Pierceland Central School.

To most students, it's just a very welcome long weekend but to our senior volleyball teams, it's a mega-weekend. The Mega Volleyball Tournament kicks off today in Maidstone. Our Senior Boys and Girl Teams left this afternoon. They both have games later today and more tomorrow. We wish them safe travels and best of luck in the tournament. Check back next week for results.
